To: All SFMC members
After a slow start with the wet spring we have had 3 full weekends of tournaments with great weather.
This past weekend was the flight championships with 6 flights. Congratulations to Lou Perrota, Gino Calderone, Web Whedon, Dan Sullivan, Miguel Capeles & Kendall Roberge on winning their respective flights.
There are two topics that came up in discussion after this week’s tournament that needed to be clarified.
- Clarification on Lost ball or Out of Bounds We did not adopt the Local rule of Stroke & Distance which allows the ball to be dropped 2 club lengths into the fairway, no closer to the hole, with a 2 stoke penalty.
Rule 18.2 b. is still in effect.
What to Do When Your Ball Is Lost or Out of Bounds
If your ball is lost or out of bounds, you must take stroke-and-distance relief by adding one penalty stroke and playing a ball from where the previous stroke was made (see Rule 14.6).
The Tournament committee plans to address this for next season after having one year to understand/clarify the new local rule.
- Clarification of stokes in Match Play.
Rule 3.2 Match Play
c. Applying Handicaps in Handicap Match
Handicap strokes are given by hole, and the lower net score wins the hole. If a tied match is extended, handicap strokes are given by hole in the same way as in the round.
