UP TOP CUP Barbershop Points Challenge FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  1. What is the Up Top Barbershop Points Challenge (aka Up Top Cup)?
    1. Simply put – this is the Simsbury Men’s Club version of the PGA Fed-Ex Cup where top finishers in specific events accumulated points over the entire season.
  1. What happens if one of the specified events is postponed for any reason (weather, course conditions, other conflict, etc)?
    1. We will reschedule the Cup event for later in the season.  If that is not possible, which is very unlikely, Up Top Cup points and finishers will be based on the actual events played.
  1. If I chose not to participate in the season long Up Top Barbershop Cup, can I still play in those events?
    1. Yes, all members may play in all regular SFMC event they normally would and can win Pro Shop credits.  However, only Cup-eligible members receive Up Top Barbershop Cup points.
  1. What happens if I cannot make all of the events?
    1. That’s OK!  You still have a chance to win or place in the season finale based on your finish in the Cup events you did play.  Clearly, the more events you play in increases your chances to accumulate more Cup points if you play well and finish in the top 4 places.  Based on last years’ events, top point getters spanned skill levels and only placed in a few events.  So, there’s always a chance.  Just “bowl better” as George Galske always says.
  1. What happens if I cannot sign up for a Cup event on eVite because it is over subscribed?
    1. All Cup-eligible members should try to sign up as early as possible on eVite to avoid getting closed out.  If that happens, though, call the Pro Shop right away so arrangements can be made to have you participate in the Cup event.
  1. What happens if there is a Tie in places 1-4 in a Cup event?
    1. Ties share points equally…no matching cards which may be different from the normal SFMC event.  The Cup points are added together and divided  by the number of ties.  For example, 5 members ties for 3rd place in their flight. The points for 3rd & 4th place (50 pts each) are added together and divided by 5 ties — 100 pts/5ties = 20 points each.
  1. Can you give us an example of what the season could look like?
    1. Each Cup-eligible event is formatted and played as normal with all winners awarded Pro Shop Credits based for that event…nothing changes.  Cup points are awarded separately for Cup events and accumulated throughout the year to determine the final winners.
